July Festival & Parade, July 4, 2013
July 4th in Hampton begins with a parade. Line up at Hampton Elementary School to be in the parade, or line the streets of Hampton by 10 am for the start of the parade. Cars, floats, bike riders, walkers—all are welcome to be in the parade. Add a sign and advertise for you business, company, or cause. In lieu of handing out candy to the parade watchers, let’s put all the sweets in one big basket in McBrayer Park and have everyone get a sweet or two.
Local churches, businesses, and groups will be supplying food and beverages. Refreshments are available from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Though free to our visitors, there will be a jar for donations for the Georgia Wounded Heroes—a state organization with its roots in Hampton.
Join in the fun and games: old fashioned sack races and three-legged races. Hula hoop fun and watermelon eating contests. The prizes may be small but the fun is huge! Also for fun, horseshoes and corn hole, as well as a water slide for the youngsters.
Local DJ and karaoke king –Jimmy Smith of One Stop—will entertain with music of all genres. Mayor Chris Moore will emcee and lead the games.
Our city sponsored festivities end at 2:00 pm, but stay and enjoy a beautiful day in a park.
Later that evening, join the Atlanta Motor Speedway for Thursday Night Thunder and a spectacular display of fireworks. A $6.00 tickets gets all that entertainment in one spot. Tickets may be pre-purchased at Emporium @ Hampton, on East Main Street.
